Program and Services
Adventures in Learning – Programs are held at First Presbyterian in Charleston. Subjects presented have included: Heritage Scrapbooking, Writing Your Own Story, Tips to Trap Your Memory, Understanding Your Car, Cooking For One or Two, Window Sill Gardening, Money Matters, Intro to Art, Book Review, Nutrition & Health, Stretching your Dollars, Medicare Made Easy, Prevention of Hip Fracture, Health Care Reform, Country Western Line Dancing, Advance Directive Workshop and Living Trusts/Estate Planning, Health Screenings, Vaccinations, etc.
Newsletter – Mailed monthly to some 2,500 Shepherd’s Center participants and friends. Provides notices and a calendar of activities and programs for older adults in the Charleston area. Commercial and political ads are not published. E-mail scocwvnews@gmail.com to request a free subscription.
Bridge Parties – Weekly multi-faith bridge for older adults held at various congregations and senior centers throughout Charleston.
Monthly Programs – Shepherd’s Center meets at First Presbyterian Church on the 4th Thursday of the month. Activities include health screening, Bingo, Adventures In Learning Sessions, educational talks, musical entertainment and lunch program.
Program Resources – A compiled list of older adult programs is published for use by our Supporting Congregations and Service Groups and updated as the list grows and feedback changes are made.
Targeted Services – Special service programs as the need is identified, such as a nine session seminar for care givers to families of the aging.
